acilitating Team Empowerment

We are at a pivotal point in our human resource culture in that we recognize the need to make our employees number one. We needed a strong motivational presentation to be the catalyst for finally bringing our management "style" up-to-date. Your workshop did the job!  Thank you.

The skills of facilitation focus on participating without taking over, guiding without directing, encouraging action without suggesting what those actions should be. It is the facilitator who must keep the team focused on constant, continual improvement and thus encourage the team to set goals for its own growth. The critical event for any team is the weekly meeting. If it is of poor quality, the team will be unable to achieve its goals. The facilitator must push the team to plan its meetings and then assist the team in maintaining an orderly meeting process.

Part of productive meeting strategies is to recognize behaviors that are destructive to the team's effectiveness and to coach team members into behaviors that are empowering and further the team's cohesiveness. Assisting the team to resolve its various conflicts without outside intervention enhances the team's sense of competence. The more the facilitator knows about group dynamics and team empowerment, the better able he/she will be able to guide the team through the mine fields of seemingly innocent decisions that in the long run will increase the team's chance of failure.
