"elegation" is not a dirty word

You are a first rate speaker! We all walked away knowing we were better equipped to handle any future changes in our organization.

While many managers are happy to delegate away their entire job, many others find delegation a nightmare. Not only is it difficult to ask a subordinate to do something, if the task is not done properly, they find it impossible to insist that the person do it over again. So, in order to insure that task is done right and the human relations are comfortably maintained, the manager may redo the task themselves. As a result, both the employee and the manager fail to grow in capability and competence; the employee is unchallenged while the manager becomes enmeshed in doing the work of his/her staff.
Managers need to free themselves from time-consuming activites so that they can concentrate on coordinating the work of their individual staff members. This means that managers must be vigilant in preventing their employees from filling the manager's days with tasks which the employees should do themselves.
Managers delegate because it is impossible for them to accomplish everything themselves. Delegation is also the only way an employee grows into greater responsibility. When a manager delegates well, not only does the staff become more capable, more is accomplished. This workshop covers the fine points of effective delegation.
